The method comprises: an orientation of a fingerprint in a fingerprint identification image is determined, wherein an included angle is formed between the orientation of the fingerprint and a preset datum line of the fingerprint identification image; according to the determined orientation of the fingerprint, the fingerprint is determined to be one of a left finger or one of a right finger; on the basis of the determination of the fingerprint to be one of the left finger or one of the right finger, a left or right hand identifier of the fingerprint is generated to indicate the fingerprint of the left finger or fingerprint of the right finger; and the left or right hand identifier of the fingerprint is sent to an application program using fingerprint identification, so that the left or right hand identifier can be provided for the fingerprint in the fingerprint identification image.
