Embodiment Construction

[0065] A composite part (or material) is made of two or more constituent materials with significantly different physical or chemical properties. When combined, they create components with different properties than the individual materials, with the goal of leveraging the benefits of both. Automated fiber placement (AFP) machines are used to manufacture such composite parts by laying fiber strips (tows) in multiple layers along the mold to create a composite part in the shape of the mold. Fiber strips are placed along the mold according to the fiber lay-up trajectory input into the AFP machine to produce a given part according to a set of design parameters.

[0066] refer to figure 1 , an exemplary method for inspecting a composite part manufactured using an automated manufacturing process will be described. For purposes of illustration, the process described is an automated fiber placement (AFP) process. Composite components may include various materials such as, but not li...

Abstract

There is described a method and system for determining a sampling plan using a statistical analysis of different regions of at least one component and determining a level of performance for each of the regions. Subsequent components are then inspected using the sampling plan. Results from the inspection may be used to update and / or modify the sampling plan in a feedback loop.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority under 35 U.S.C119(e) to U.S. Application No. 62 / 044,618, filed September 2, 2014, entitled "Method and System for Determining a Sampling Plan for Inspection of Composite Parts," which The entire contents are hereby incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to the field of inspection of composite parts manufactured by automated manufacturing processes, and more particularly, to a dynamic method of determining a sampling scheme for inspection of composite parts. Background technique [0004] Checking the dimensional requirements of manufactured parts is an important part of the manufacturing process. Checking each part manually is time consuming. Therefore, sampling is used to reduce costs and reduce the overall time required for inspection. Acceptance sampling consists of sampling only one or two parts of a lot to accept or reject the entire lot...
