Embodiment Construction

[0075] Below in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, the present invention is further described by means of embodiments, but the scope of the present invention is not limited in any way.

[0076] The present invention provides a new panorama image mapping method and its corresponding inverse mapping method. The panorama image mapping method of the present invention can map a spherical surface to a two-dimensional plane, which can improve oversampling in high latitude regions. The planar image in the present invention can be mapped back to a spherical surface by the panorama image inverse mapping method for rendering viewing.

[0077] An embodiment of the present invention provides a panorama image mapping method based on a main viewpoint, including a panorama image mapping method and a corresponding inverse mapping method. Embodiments of the mapping method and the inverse mapping method are respectively introduced below.

Abstract

The invention discloses a panoramic image mapping method and an inverse mapping method. In a mapping process, a panoramic image or a spherical surface corresponding to a video A is mapped into a two-dimensional planar image or a video B. The method comprises the following steps: firstly, partitioning the spherical surface into three regions, namely, a region I, a region II and a region III according to the latitude of the spherical surface; mapping the three regions into a square plane I', a rectangular plane II' and a square plane III' respectively; and splicing the plane I', the plane II' and the plane III' into one plane, wherein the obtained plane is the two-dimensional planar image or the video B. Compared with an existing common mapping method, the method has the advantages that oversampling of a high-latitude region is improved effectively, and a code rate needed by coding and the decoding complexity can be lowered effectively. The panoramic image mapping method and the inverse mapping method relate to the field of virtual reality, and can be applied to panoramic images and videos.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to the field of virtual reality (VR), in particular to a new panoramic image mapping method, which can reduce the code rate required for encoding panoramic images and videos, and can be used for panoramic images and videos. Background technique [0002] With the increasing development of virtual reality technology, the demand for virtual reality videos in various fields is increasing. Compared with traditional flat images, 360° panoramic images require a wider viewing angle. Therefore, panoramic images require higher resolution and a much higher bit rate for encoding. [0003] Existing encoding and storage technologies do not support spherical surfaces. Therefore, using existing methods to encode and store panoramic images requires mapping a 360° panoramic image onto a two-dimensional plane. Among the existing methods, the most common mapping method is equirectangular mapping, which samples the spherical surface according to its ...
