In one aspect, assembly 10 includes a roof drill bit 12 adapted to drill a borehole, for example, in a mine roof. In one particular aspect, the roof drill bit 12 may include a cutting insert 14 and a roof drill bit base 16 . The cutting insert 14 forms the cutting edge and the roof bit base 16 forms the opposite attachment end, as will be described herein. The cutting insert 14 is receivable in and attached to a slot 18 formed in the roof drill bit base 16 . Brazing is a typical method that may be used to attach or attach the cutting insert 14 to the roof bit base 16 within the slot 18 . However, it should be understood that other roof drilling arrangements may be used in accordance with aspects of the present invention.

A coupler for use with a roof drill bit includes an elongate coupler body having a forward end for removably attaching the roof drill bit thereto and a rearward drive end. The elongate coupler body contains an interior bore therein and a dust port formed on an outer surface of the elongate coupler body, wherein the dust port is in communication with the interior bore.
