Abstract

The invention relates to a content cache system and method based on virtual network interfaces. A pending interest table and a forwarding information base are allocated in a memory of a network device. The virtual network interfaces are added to the pending interest table and the forwarding information base. When interest messages are received, the pending interest table is searched according to the received interest messages. If no corresponding table entry is matched, a new table entry is interposed into the pending interest table, the virtual network interfaces or network interfaces stored by a plug-in network are added to the new table entry and the interest messages are forwarded according to the forwarding information base. For received data messages, the data messages are sent to a storage device and the network interfaces entered by corresponding interest messages according to the pending interest table. According to the system and the method, the waiting problem when the network device in an information center network processes access cache is solved, moreover, the interest message forwarding delay problem when the cache is not hit is solved, the waiting problem when the network device accesses the cache is unified according to a forwarding ideal, and the processing performance of the network device is improved.
