Problems solved by technology

While postoperative treatment can be used to reduce adhesions, the resulting tendon can induce gap formation or tendon rupture at the repair site, severely impairing the outcome of the repair
Gaps at the repair site have many negative effects such as reduced repair strength, tendon rupture, and increased likelihood of adhesions

Embodiment Construction

[0095] Various embodiments of soft tissue repair devices are disclosed herein. Such a repair device may be sized and configured to approximate and fuse, for example, a torn tendon. Various embodiments may provide a structure that maintains the two ends of the torn tendon in an adjoining relationship without gaps, while allowing for controlled tendon elongation along the length of the repair device and near the tendon ends. In this way, the repair device of the present invention can provide the proper healing required to fuse the tendon ends while still providing mobility of the tendon to minimize atrophy and potential adhesions.

[0096] refer to figure 1 , provides one embodiment of a prosthetic device 30 shown in a pre-deployed state. Repair device 30 may include flexible member 32 and one or more rigid members 24 that may be coupled together with anchors 36 . Flexible member 32 is positionable in a pre-deployed state relative to independent and discrete anchors 36 within...

Abstract

Devices, systems and / or methods for repairing soft tissue adjacent a repair site. In one embodiment, a repair device includes a plate member and an anchor. A plate member has a perimeter configured to be positioned along an outer surface of the soft tissue. The anchor includes a base and six feet extending from the base, the six feet extending from the base are movable into a crimped configuration such that the six feet coil around a plurality of separate portions of the periphery of the plate member with soft tissue therebetween. In this way, the prosthetic device can be anchored to soft tissue.
