Abstract

A method of estimating finger movement, comprising: obtaining a navigation estimate image from each of at least three navigation sub-regions of a fingerprint sensor; for each of the navigation estimate images, determining a navigation correlation of the navigation estimate image properties; evaluating the navigation-related properties to find a combination of at least a first navigation-related property and a second navigation-related property that satisfies the navigation requirements; and selecting at least a first navigation sub- area and a second navigation sub-area related to a second navigation-related property. The finger movement is then estimated using the sequence of first navigation images obtained using the first navigation sub-region and the sequence of second navigation images obtained using the second navigation sub-region.
