Abstract

A clutch for a continuously variable transmission and a method of operating the clutch are disclosed. A vehicle includes a continuously variable transmission including a gear selectively locked to an output shaft via a clutch actuated by an electrical coil. The vehicle also includes a controller configured to, in response to detecting wheel bounce, energize an electrical coil to disengage the clutch, thereby allowing the gear and output shaft to rotate independently of each other.
