Various embodiments described herein relate to methods and apparatus for disconnecting elements at portions of a power system by means of devices. The method may comprise: measuring an operating parameter and / or receiving a message from a control device indicating a potentially unsafe condition at certain locations of the system; disconnecting and / or shorting a system element in response; and reconnecting Reconnect system components when they are safe.
