Embodiment Construction

[0039] As noted above, a process plant, process control system, or process control environment operating to control one or more industrial processes in real time when online can take advantage of the novel intelligent commissioning techniques, systems, devices, components, devices, and / or or one or more of the methods to debug. A process plant, when commissioned and operated online, includes one or more wired or wireless process control devices, components, or elements that perform a physical function in conjunction with a process control system to control the one or more processes. A process plant and / or process control system may include, for example, one or more wired communication networks and / or one or more wireless communication networks. Additionally, a process plant or control system may include centralized databases, such as continuous, batch, asset management, historian, and other types of databases.

Abstract

Techniques for automatically testing an entire process control loop, such as after components and portions of the loop have been commissioned separately, or after run-time operation begins, enable theprocess control loop to be tested without an operator in a back-end environment of a process plant coordinating with an operator in a field environment of the process plant to supply inputs and / or generate various conditions at the loop. Instead, a single operator performs a single operation to initiate an automatic loop test, or in some implementations, no user input is needed to initiate and / orperform the automatic loop test. Automatic loop testing includes automatically causing a field device to operate in a plurality of test states and determining whether resultant loop behaviors are expected behaviors. Multiple loops may be tested concurrently or distinct in time. An automatic loop test result is generated and may be presented via a user interface.
