Embodiment Construction

[0025] An embodiment of the disclosed subject matter includes a machine 2 for producing polyurethane foam in bags. Machine 2 may generally be of the type described in US Patent Application Publication No. 2012 / 0261028, which was previously incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. However, as disclosed herein, machine 2 includes a novel dispensing system 21 including a liquid source 26 and a liquid dispenser 58, and a dispensing system 23 including a liquid source 24 and a liquid dispenser 60 ( Figure 1-6 ).

[0026] figure 1 A machine 2 for manufacturing foam cushioning is shown, comprising a body 4 and a door 6 . The door 6 includes an upper latch 8 and a lower latch 10 . Control panel 12 provides an interface for controlling the operation of the machine. An emergency stop switch 14 is included to stop the operation of the machine. Machine 2 includes a dispensing system 21 including a liquid source 26 and a dispensing system 23 including a liquid source 24, as ...

Abstract

A system for dispensing a liquid includes a source (24) of a liquid that crystallizes upon exposure to water moisture in air (e.g., an isocyanate). A dispenser (58) includes an inlet conduit (62) forreceiving the liquid from the source, an outlet conduit (72) for dispensing the liquid out of an outlet opening exposed to air, and a valve (66) between the inlet (62) and outlet conduits (72). In theclosed position of the valve (i) an upstream portion of the liquid is retained in the inlet conduit (62) on the upstream side of the valve (66) and (ii) a downstream portion of the liquid extending from the downstream side of the valve to the outlet opening is retained in the outlet conduit (72) on the downstream side of the valve (66). The size of the outlet opening of the outlet conduit (72) issufficiently small to retain the downstream portion of the liquid in the outlet conduit when the valve (66) is in the closed position.

Description

[0001] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Application No. 62 / 240,207, filed October 12, 2015, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0002] The presently disclosed subject matter relates to liquid dispensing systems, such as may be used to dispense liquid foam precursors. Background technique [0003] Polyurethane foams may be formed by mixing isocyanate compounds with hydroxyl-containing materials such as polyols (ie, compounds containing many hydroxyl groups), typically in the presence of water and a catalyst. When the isocyanate and polyol foam precursors react to form polyurethane, the water reacts with the isocyanate to produce carbon dioxide gas, which is used as a blowing agent or blowing agent to expand the polyurethane into a foam-like microcellular structure (i.e., polyurethane foam ). [0004] With foam-in-bag packaging, the foam precursors can be mixed and dispensed into flexible plastic bags (eg, when the...
