Abstract

In various embodiments, a wearable non-invasive device for enhancing venous return in a subject's lower extremities may be provided. The apparatus may include a monitoring device configured to determine a venous state of the subject, such as a photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor. The apparatus may further include: a neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) device configured to generate electrical stimulation in response to the determined venous state, and to simultaneously stimulate the subject's triceps calf and deep posterior region with the generated electrical stimulation Calf muscles to enhance venous return from the lower extremities. In an alternative embodiment, the electrical stimulation may retrogradely target the subject's triceps calf and deep posterior calf muscles at the subject's tibial nerve.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority from Singapore Application No. 10201509867X filed on 1 December 2015, the contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference in their entirety for all purposes. technical field [0003] Various aspects of the present disclosure relate to wearable non-invasive devices for enhancing venous return in a subject's lower extremities. Various aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods of enhancing venous return in a subject. Background technique [0004] Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) of the lower extremities is one of the most common disorders in developed countries worldwide, with varicose veins affecting more than 25 million adults in the United States and more than 6 million with advanced venous disease. The prevalence rate of male and female is about 1.5 to 3.5. CVI is the cause of ulcers in 60% to 80% of patients with chronic leg ulcers. Venous leg ulcers (also known...
