Problems solved by technology

[0007] One drawback of systems with a combined connection and insertion hub is that there is no second hub between the pump and the combined connection / insertion hub to provide strain relief on the tubing leading to the hub that houses the cannula
[0009] Another flaw: Once the hub has been attached to the body, it cannot be repositioned
As a result, patients are often stuck with a specific length of tubing and will find it costly to purchase multiple infusion sets with different lengths of tubing

Embodiment Construction

[0044] figure 1 An infusion set 20 is schematically depicted having a cannula 24 for delivering medication from a medication reservoir 22 to a patient 26 . The drug reservoir 22 may take the form of a pump to which the pump is operatively coupled, whereby the pump expels the drug, such as insulin, which flows through the flexible tube 28 to the cannula 24 where the drug Injected subcutaneously into patient 26. The infusion set 20 has a combined connection / insertion hub 30 that attaches to the patient's skin. Tube management device 36 can be attached to patient 26, and between reservoir 22 and hub 30 such as figure 1 The flexible tube 28 is joined at a location schematically depicted in . In one embodiment, the flexible tube 28 is made of plastic material.

[0045] Several embodiments of the tube management device 36 are disclosed herein and discussed in greater detail below. Using such a tube management device 36 in the fluid path between the reservoir 22 and the hub 30...

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a tube management device for an infusion set that includes a holding member attachable to the patient and which defines a holding chamber for the tube. The tube may be engaged and disengaged with the device while the tube is operably connected to convey medication. The device may also allow a) the length of flexible tube controlled by the device and b) the position of the final exit of the tube from the holding member relative to the initial entry of the tube into the holding member to both be selectively adjusted. In some embodiments, the holding chamber is defined by a plurality of channels which may be either non-intersecting or intersecting channels.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 62 / 326,248, filed April 22, 2016, entitled "STRAIN RELIEF AND TUBE MANAGEMENTASSEMBLY FOR AN INFUSION SET," the entire disclosure of which is expressly incorporated by reference in this article. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates to infusion sets for delivering drugs to patients. Infusion sets typically include an infusion line or tubing that leads from a drug delivery device, such as a pump, to a cannula that is inserted into the patient's subcutaneous tissue. Such infusion sets are often used to inject insulin or other suitable medications. Background technique [0004] A typical infusion set includes a connector hub disposed between the drug pump and the cannula. The connector hub includes two mating portions that allow the pump to be connected and disconnected from the cannula without having to remove the can...
