Abstract

A planar structure formed by an n-end compression member and 2n rope units is used as a basic module and the structure is built by using a plurality of basic modules. According to the side number n of all surfaces and the shape of a to-be-built polyhedron, a corresponding n-end compression member is selected and is connected with 2n ropes to make a basic module; the basic modules are connected successively based on a correspondingrelationship with each face of the polyhedron to form a needed structure. In the structure, each compression member has a pre-stressing stress and each rope unit has a pre-tensioning stress. Therefore, the tensioned overall structure with the good symmetry and large internal space can be built quickly and easily. The method can be applied to design and building of various tensioned overall structures widely. The compression members can be made into various shapes based on needs; and thus the types of the built structures are increased.
