Embodiment Construction

[0039] The present disclosure provides a wound retractor and sample bag assembly and vacuum tube for minimally invasive surgery. As used herein with reference to the present disclosure, minimally invasive surgery encompasses laparoscopic, arthroscopic, and endoscopic procedures, and involves the use of a viewing device with a relatively narrow operating portion that can be inserted through a small incision in the skin or similar device surgery.

[0040] Aspects of the present disclosure can be modified for use with various methods for retrieving tissue samples during minimally invasive surgical procedures (sometimes referred to herein as minimally invasive procedures). Examples of minimally invasive procedures include, for example, gallbladder removal, appendix removal, kidney removal, colon removal, and spleen removal, among others.

[0041] As used herein, the term distal refers to the portion of the wound retractor and sample bag assembly that is farthest from the user, wh...

Abstract

A surgical apparatus of the present disclosure includes a wound retractor having a specimen bag attached thereto. Kits of the present disclosure include the surgical apparatus and a vacuum tube. In embodiments, the vacuum tube may be introduced into a lumen of the wound retractor. A vacuum source is attached to a proximal end portion of the vacuum tube to draw a vacuum through the vacuum tube, which in turn draws a tissue specimen into the lumen of the vacuum tube through an opening in the distal end portion of the vacuum tube. The vacuum tube, possessing the tissue specimen therein, may thenbe removed from the wound retractor. Methods for using the surgical apparatus and/or kits of the present disclosure are also provided.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit and priority of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 621,189, filed January 24, 2018, the entire disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The present disclosure generally relates to surgical equipment for minimally invasive surgical procedures, such as endoscopic and / or laparoscopic procedures, and more particularly, the present disclosure relates to a surgical equipment that includes a sample retrieval bag assembly and vacuum tubing, the Vacuum tubing is used to access the bag assembly and collect body tissue and / or body fluids during these procedures. Background technique [0004] Minimally invasive procedures, such as endoscopic surgery, make surgery less invasive. Endoscopic surgery involves surgery through the body wall, such as viewing and / or operating on the ovaries, uterus, gallbladder, bowel, kidneys, appendix, etc. There are ...
