Embodiment Construction

[0016] figure 1 is a block diagram depicting an exemplary home theater apparatus 100 for use with various consumer electronic devices such as, for example, a game console 102, a cable box 104, and a DVD player 106 using an EPG or IPG menu based system, TV 112 etc., associated EPG / IPG. EPG / IPG information is traditionally transmitted by dedicated video character generation equipment located within each such provider's central head-end facility. By tuning to the EPG channel, a menu listing current and upcoming television programs on all available channels is displayed. The data used to populate the EPG / IPG is usually implemented on a device connected directly or via a computer to the content provider. More recently, content can also be distributed over the Internet for premium or free programming, and information is also distributed over the Internet by content provider computers. Traditionally, TV-based EPG / IPG with program delivery control (PDC) technology can also be used ...

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to consumer electronics, and more particularly to automatically staring at audio / visual programs on consumer electronics devices. Background technique [0002] Since their release in the early 1980s, electronic program guides (EPGs) have become ubiquitous. A more modern form of EPG associated with television and radio broadcasting is the Interactive Program Guide (IPG), which allows media users such as television viewers and radio listeners to interactively navigate scheduled menus of information. Users of media, including but not limited to television and radio, can use EPG / IPG to obtain broadcast information through their published menus. These menus may also provide other relevant information about currently broadcast and upcoming scheduled programs and content. Some guides also feature scrolling backwards to advance past content for catch-up purposes. In addition, non-interactive electronic program guides...
