Embodiment Construction

[0032] figure 1 A route control system 100 is shown for controlling the use of at least one non-optimal route according to an embodiment. As shown, the path control system 100 includes a path controller device 102 coupled between an application 104 and a network 106 that includes a plurality of paths that will be classified as including the best path and one or more non-optimal paths. In the context of this specification, the application 104 may include any software that enables messages to be transmitted over the network 106 . For example, in one embodiment, such messages may be configured to be transmitted over the Internet using transmission control protocol / Internet Protocol (TCP / IP). In other embodiments, other protocols (e.g., Internet control message protocol (ICMP), user datagram protocol (UDP), etc.) and other networks (e.g., personal area networks, local area networks, wide area networks) are contemplated. Wait).

Abstract

An apparatus, method, and non-transitory computer-readable media are provided for controlling usage of an non-optimal path. In use, for example, a processing device identifies one of a plurality of paths as an optimal path based on a plurality of round trip time (RTT) values, where the RTT values include an optimal path round trip time (RTT) value of the optimal path and at least one non-optimal path RTT value of at least one non-optimal path. A threshold data amount is determined in connection with the at least one non-optimal path, based on the optimal path RTT value of the optimal path andthe at least one non-optimal path RTT value of the at least one non-optimal path. Further, an application data amount is estimated by the processing device in connection with messages of at least oneapplication. Such application data amount and threshold data amount are compared by the processing device. To this end, usage of the at least one non-optimal path is controlled by the processing device for communicating the messages of the at least one application, based on the comparison of the application data amount and the threshold data amount.

Description

[0001] Related Applications Cross Application [0002] This application claims U.S. Nonprovisional Serial No. 15 / 410,641, filed January 19, 2017, entitled "Apparatus and method for controlling usage of a non-optimal path" Priority to earlier patent applications, the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to networking, and more particularly, to using multiple paths to transmit data. Background technique [0004] Single-path packet switching is a type of switching that uses a single path (such as a connection, etc.) to carry data from a source to a destination. In contrast, multipath packet switching refers to a type of switching that allows the use of multiple paths (eg, connections, etc.) in transporting data from a source to a destination. For larger data flows, multi-path packet switching is preferred over single-path packet switching because it has more bandwidth and can deliver data from source to...
