Abstract

The invention is entitled "Device Awareness in Line-of-Sight Optical Communication Systems". The present invention discloses techniques by which electronic devices including line-of-sight optical communication systems can optically sense other electronic devices and perform optical communication handshaking with other devices. When an electronic device determines during performing an optical communication handshake that it is pointing at the electronic device with which it is performing an optical communication handshake (or that another electronic device is within the electronic device's field of view), the electronic device may use a motion sensor to record its gesture. The recorded device pose, combined with optical communication and motion sensor data, can also be used to map the location of another device and enable the user of the electronic device to pan away and disrupt the optical communication with another device, then easily return back to enable continued A recorded pose for optical communication with another device.
