Problems solved by technology

[0009] The methods for extracting nucleic acids disclosed in Japanese Patent No. 3794734 and U.S. Patent No. 7,329,488 are carried out in equipment specially designed for bead-transfer-only methods, and thus still suffer from the above-mentioned disadvantages of bead-transfer-type methods

Abstract

The present invention relates to novel modules for transferring magnetic beads, an automated system comprising the same and a method for extracting nucleic acids using the same. The specifically designed magnet module and cover module of the present invention can be employed in the automated liquid handling apparatus by means of pre-existing moving modules (e.g., pipettor module) of the apparatus. The present invention enables a bead transfer-type method for extracting nucleic acids to be performed in an automated manner on the automated liquid handling apparatus. The present invention provides advantages of higher level of automation, more reduced cost and no need for another separate liquid handling apparatus compared to the conventional bead transfer-type method usually performed in thesmall apparatus designed to be used only for the bead transfer-type method. Also, the present method has the merits of more shortened reaction time compared to the conventional liquid transfer-type method.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a novel module for transferring magnetic beads, an automated system comprising the module and a method for extracting nucleic acid using the module. Background technique [0002] A nucleic acid amplification technique capable of amplifying a specific gene of interest has been used in various fields such as in vitro diagnostics for determining pathogen infection in humans, animals, and plants, genotyping, and genetic analysis in GMO food testing. In order to efficiently amplify specific genes, nucleic acids in various samples should be extracted and purified by removing any substances that inhibit nucleic acid amplification. [0003] Traditionally, for small-scale experiments, nucleic acid extraction has been performed manually. However, due to the increase in the number of samples from which nucleic acid must be extracted at one time and the necessity of quality control of the extraction process, many devices for autom...
