example 1

[0072] The use of the rotary drive subassembly 100 as described above allows the installation and removal of worn or broken tools 110 without removing the rotary drive 199 with the rotary drive subassembly 100 installed. For example, in the case where the tool holder 130 is held in the rotary drive 199, the rotational anchoring of the tool 110 with respect to the tool holder 130 allows the tool 110 to be separated from the tool holder 130, thereby enabling the new tool 110 to quickly replace the worn or Broken tool 110, where rapid replacement means rapid or rapid continuous tool change that facilitates replacing one tool 110 with another tool 110. The use of the rotary drive subassembly reduces the amount of time required to replace worn or broken tools 110, which also reduces the amount of downtime associated with replacing worn or broken tools 110. Moreover, the key 132 prevents rotation of the rotary drive subassembly 100 relative to the rotary drive 199 within predetermine...

[0078] Refer generally to FIG. 1 and specifically for example Figure 4C , The first threaded portion 113 of the tool 110 includes a second internal thread 113I, and the second threaded portion 133 of the tool holder 130 includes a second external thread 133E. The previous subject matter of this paragraph characterizes Example 3 of the present disclosure, where Example 3 also includes the subject matter according to Example 1 above.

[0079] Providing a deformation of the thread configuration (such as Examples 2 and 3 above) allows the first threaded portion 113 and the second threaded portion 133 to be easily manufactured.

Abstract

The invention relates to apparatuses and methods for coupling threaded fasteners. A rotary-drive sub-assembly includes a tool and a tool retainer, and the tool includes a fastener-engagement portion,a first threaded portion, and a tool-change-engagement portion between the fastener-engagement portion and the first threaded portion. The tool retainer includes a body and a retaining member. The tool retainer includes an axis of symmetry and a second threaded portion, and the second threaded portion is configured to be threadably secured with the first threaded portion of the tool, so that the tool is rotationally anchored relative to the tool retainer about the axis of symmetry and is translationally anchored relative to the tool retainer along the axis of symmetry. The tool retainer further includes a key fixed relative to the second threaded portion and a holding surface fixed relative to the key.

Description

[0001] This application is a divisional application for an invention patent application with an application date of February 28, 2017, an application number of 201710112572.2, and an invention title of "apparatus and method for connecting threaded fasteners". Technical field [0002] The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for coupling threaded fasteners. Background technique [0003] "Blind" fasteners, such as studs, that are only accessible from one side of the work piece, typically have a tool joint formed at one end of each stud. Traditionally, when the retaining tool of the nut tightener is used to prevent the stud from rotating, the nut is screwed onto the stud using a rotary driver or the socket of the nut tightener. The retaining tool of the nut tightener is subject to high stresses and the resulting wear. Generally, the replacement of holding tools requires a large number of disassembly of the nut tightener, which results in production downtime. Summary...
