Embodiment Construction

[0027] The following detailed description describes embodiments of the disclosure and the manner in which they can be implemented. Although certain ways of carrying out the disclosure have been disclosed, those skilled in the art will recognize that other embodiments are possible for carrying out or practicing the disclosure.

[0028] In one aspect, an embodiment of the present disclosure provides a display device, including:

[0029] - at least one image renderer for rendering images;

[0030] - an exit optical element through which a projection of the rendered image exits the display device and is incident on the user's eyes when the user wears the display device;

[0031] - means for providing visual cues disposed in a peripheral region substantially surrounding the viewport of the exit optical element while being within the user's field of view; and

[0032] - A processor coupled to at least one image renderer and means for providing visual cues, wherein the processor is...

Abstract

Disclosed is a display apparatus and method of displaying, via the display apparatus. The display apparatus comprises at least one image renderer for rendering an image; an exit optical element through which a projection of the rendered image exits the display apparatus to be incident upon a user's eye, when the display apparatus is head-mounted by the user; means for providing visual cues, the visual cues being provided in a peripheral region, the peripheral region substantially surrounding a viewport of the exit optical element; and a processor coupled to the at least one image renderer andthe means for providing the visual cues, wherein the processor generates a drive signal based at least partially upon a region of the rendered image that is not visible in the viewport of the exit optical element, and to control, via the drive signal, the means for providing the visual cues.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to virtual and augmented reality; more particularly, to a display device including an image renderer, exit optics, means for providing visual cues, and a processor. Furthermore, the present disclosure also relates to a display method by means of the aforementioned display device. Background technique [0002] In recent years, the development and use of technologies such as virtual reality, augmented reality, etc. that present a simulated environment to users has grown rapidly. In particular, such techniques provide the user with a sense of full participation in a simulated environment by employing contemporary techniques such as stereoscopy. Thus, such a simulated environment enhances the user's perception of the reality around him / her. Furthermore, such simulated environments relate to fully virtual environments (ie, virtual reality environments) as well as real world environments including virtual objects ov...
