Embodiment Construction

[0051] In general, the present disclosure relates to one or more absorbing compounds that may be incorporated with one or more polymeric substrates placed on or incorporated into an electronic device. The absorbing compound is ideally blue based and provides protection to the individual from potentially harmful light emitted by the electronic device and uses a polymer substrate for application on and in the electronic device. The absorbing compound and polymeric substrate combinations described herein can include materials for fabricating optical filters with defined transmission and optical density for visible wavelength transmission. In some embodiments, the material from which such filters are made can include organic dye-impregnated polycarbonate compositions. In application, after the electronic device is purchased, the protective film can be applied to the screen surface of the device, or the protective film can be incorporated into the screen during production. In anot...

Abstract

Dual notch filters for electronic devices are provided that filter light from the blue spectrum as well as the red spectrum in a narrow wavelength band or "notch". Dual notch filters can output light using input light from a conventional LED-backlit LCD display that has been measured to substantially meet the D65 white point guidelines. In some instances, dual notch filters can output light that has been measured to Almost meets the criteria for the D65 white point to within + / ‑500 Kelvin. In some instances, dual notch filters can output light that has been measured to nearly meet the D65 white point guidelines to within + / ‑1000 Kelvin.
