The remote upgrading method comprises the following steps that a basic data platform obtains an upgrading file andsends an upgrading instruction to the vehicle-mounted terminal of a to-be-upgraded vehicle; when the vehicle-mounted terminal is allowed to be upgraded, the basic data platform issues an upgrading file to the vehicle-mounted terminal according to the upgrading instruction; after the vehicle-mounted terminal receives the upgrading file, whether the target controller is allowed to be upgraded is detected; when the target controller allows upgrading, the vehicle-mounted terminal sends the upgrading file to the target controller; and after the target controller receives the upgrading file, the vehicle-mounted terminal controls the target controller to automatically run and upgrade according to the upgrading file. The invention further provides a remote upgrading system based on the vehicle-mounted terminal.
