Embodiment Construction

[0111] Preferred embodiments of the invention are described below with reference to working examples, which are for illustration only and are not to be construed as imposing any limitations.

[0112] Manufacture of molding compositions and test specimens:

[0113] Molding compositions having the compositions in Tables 1 and 2 below were produced on a ZSK25 twin-screw extruder from Werner u. Pfleiderer. The various polyamide pellets are mixed together with stabilizers and additives and metered into the feed zone. Fillers (glass fibers, mica, kaolin, calcium carbonate, hollow glass beads and glass flakes) were metered into the polymer melt via a side feeder three-barrel arrangement before the die. Set the barrel temperature to a rising curve up to 290°C (for PA-4 and PA-5: up to 320°C). Compounding was performed at 200 rpm with a throughput of 15 kg / hour. The extruded strands were pelletized after cooling in a water bath, and the resulting pellets were dried at 100° C. for 2...

Abstract

A polyamide molding composition consists of components (A) 28.0-64.9% by weight of at least one polyamide, (B) 15.0-40.0% by weight of glass fibers, (C) 15.0-35.0% by weight of glass flakes with a particle thickness in the range of 0.3-2.0 [mu]m, (D) 0.1-2.0% by weight of heat stabilizer, (E) 0-5.0% by weight of additives, with the proviso that the sum of components (B) and (C) is in the range from 35.0 to 65.0% by weight%, based on the sum of components (A) to (E), and the sum of components (A) to (E) gives 100% by weight.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a glass fiber reinforced polyamide molding composition which has good mechanical properties and good surface properties both in the dry state and in the conditioned state. Background technique [0002] US 3499955 describes the possibility of using both glass fibers and glass flakes in partially thermoplastic molding compositions with crosslinkers. The aim is to contain as little vapor as possible and to subsequently crosslink the matrix. [0003] WO-A-94 / 22942 discloses polyamide molding compositions incorporating both glass fibers and glass flakes. The substrates disclosed are aliphatic polyamides only, and surface and mechanical properties are reported, but no comparison between the dry state and the conditioned state. [0004] EP-A-0741762 completes glass-fibre-reinforced polyamide molding compositions based partly on mixtures of polyamide 66 and polyamide 6T / DT. The mechanical and surface properties in the dry st...
