Abstract

A biopsy forceps includes an end effector with opposing first and second jaws coupled together and configured to move from an open configuration to a closed configuration. Each of the first jaw and the second jaw includes a plurality of teeth having a base. The bases of two adjacent teeth of the first jaw are spaced apart to form a first gap, and the bases of two adjacent teeth on the second jaw are spaced apart to form a second gap. The end effector in the closed configuration may define one or more windows between edges of the first and the second jaws. And, at least one of these windows mayinclude at least a portion of one or both of the first and second gaps.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This patent application claims priority under 35 U.S.C. §119 to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 644,892, filed March 19, 2018, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present invention generally relates to medical devices. More specifically, the present invention relates to medical devices, eg, for harvesting tissue during biopsy procedures, and methods of using the same. Background technique [0004] Tissue samples are frequently examined to determine the presence of pathological disorders. Endoscopic biopsy forceps are used in conjunction with an endoscope to obtain tissue samples from the human body for analysis. Often, samples must be obtained from locations deep in the body that are difficult to access using the jaws of standard forceps (eg, tissue from areas that are only accessible by tortuous biliary pathways). In some cases, the quality or amount o...
