Embodiment Construction

[0019] In general, for a female catheter user, it may be difficult to locate her urethral opening. Some users can use a mirror to solve the problem, but trying to locate the small opening in the mirror can be challenging. As a result, many users end up using trial and error - poking around until they find the opening of the urethra. For each catheter tip touching tissue surrounding the urethral meatus (i.e., vaginal or rectal area), there is a potential risk of contamination of the tip with bacteria that can be carried to the urethra / bladder when the catheter tube is inserted middle. This contamination carries the risk of urinary tract or kidney infection. The positioner tip disclosed herein minimizes or eliminates this potential contamination problem by providing a self-guiding mechanism to allow insertion of the catheter tip into the urethral meatus.

[0020] The locator tip disclosed herein prevents exposure of the catheter tube to the subject's tissue until the urethral...

Abstract

Disclosed herein are catheter assemblies (100) with a locator tip (134) proximal to the distal tip (112) of a catheter tube (110). The locator tip is sized to remain outside a female urethra and configured to allow the catheter tube to pass there through. As an example, the locator tip allows a woman using a urinary catheter to target her urethra without exposing the catheter tube to tissue untilthe urethra is located and insertion is initiated. This avoids infecting the urethra with a catheter tube that has been contaminated by bacteria around the urethra.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 62 / 610100, filed December 22, 2017, and GB 1721956.9, filed December 27, 2017, each of U.S. Provisional Application No. 62 / 610100 and GB 1721956.9 Incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. [0003] This application also incorporates in its entirety PCT Application CV0662-PCT, entitled "Catheter Wetting Device," filed on December 21, 2018, concurrently with this application. Background technique [0004] Intermittent self-catheterization catheters are temporary, single-use catheters used to drain urine from the bladder or surgically connected passages. [0005] With catheters intended for female use, some problems can be exacerbated by the location of the urethra and its proximity to the vaginal area (a particularly sensitive area). For example, aligning the catheter tip with the urethra located near the vaginal region can cause severe disc...
