Abstract

An embodiment method of serving network authentication and verification by a UE includes: encrypting an identifier associated with the UE using a first instance of a public key associated with a serving network that the UE is attempting to access; sending the above-mentioned an identifier; receiving from said serving network an authentication vector containing a second instance of said public key encrypted using a key shared by said UE and a home network associated with said UE; decrypting the second instance of the public key with the key shared by the UE and the home network; comparing the first instance of the public key with the second instance of the public key; and when the first instance and the second instance match At the same time, it is determined that the home network has authenticated and verified the serving network.
