Embodiment Construction

[0047] It should be understood at the outset that although an illustrative implementation of one or more embodiments is provided below, the disclosed systems and / or methods may be implemented using any number of techniques, whether currently known or in existence. The invention should in no way be limited to the illustrative implementations, drawings, and techniques illustrated below, including the exemplary designs and implementations illustrated and described herein, but rather be within the scope of the appended claims and their equivalents Modified within the full range of .

[0048] Video coding involves dividing a video frame (also known as an image) into blocks and encoding the blocks through intra- and inter-prediction to compress the size of the video file. The present invention relates to improving the segmentation process. Specifically, video frames are divided into slices, which can extend laterally within the frame. Then, each slice is subdivided into coding tre...

Abstract

A video coding mechanism is disclosed. The mechanism includes partitioning an image to create at least one coding tree unit (CTU) with at least one coding tree node. The mechanism further includes determining that the coding tree node height is twice a maximum transform unit (TU) height and the coding tree node width is twice a maximum TU width. The mechanism further includes selecting a split mode for the coding tree node based on the determination. The split mode is selected from a quad-tree split, a horizontal binary-tree split, and no split. The mechanism further includes applying the split mode to the coding tree node to create one or more coding units (CUs). The mechanism further includes encoding the CUs into a bitstream. The mechanism further includes transmitting the bitstream toward a decoder.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to video coding, and more particularly to generating coding trees for partitioning coding tree units (CTUs) in video coding. Background technique [0002] Large amounts of video data need to be described even in the case of short videos, which can cause difficulties when the data is to be transmitted or otherwise transmitted in a communication network with limited bandwidth capacity. Therefore, video data is usually compressed before being sent over modern telecommunications networks. Since memory resources may be limited, the size of the video may also be an issue when storing the video in a storage device. Video compression devices typically use software and / or hardware on the source side to decode video data prior to transmission or storage, thereby reducing the amount of data required to represent digital video images. The compressed data is then received at the destination side by a video decompression dev...
