The method comprises the following steps of: shooting a clear image of an object by using a focusing camera; then manually measuring the radius value of the shot object, obtaining the area value of the shot initial shot object image through an image processing means, obtaining the linear relation between the distance of the initial shot object and the area value of the initial shot object image, wherein the linear coefficient of the linear relation is determined by the initial focal length value of the camera and the radius value of the initial shot object; and finally, shooting a new shot object image after adjusting the focal length of the camera, obtaining the area of the new shot object image, and calculating the distance between the camera and the new shot object according to the linear relationship. Thus, camera calibration is not needed each time, and camera target distance measurement can be completed only by acquiring the image area.
