Embodiment Construction

[0015] Both the foregoing general description and the following detailed description are exemplary and explanatory only and are not restrictive of the claimed features. As used herein, the terms "comprises," "comprising," "having," "comprising," or variations thereof are intended to cover a non-exclusive inclusion such that a process, method, article, or apparatus comprising a list of elements not only Only those elements are included, but other elements not explicitly listed or inherent to such process, method, article or apparatus may also be included. For the purposes of the present invention, the term "ground surface" is used broadly to refer to all types of material traversed (eg, dirt, rock, clay, sand, asphalt, cement, etc.). Furthermore, in the present invention, relative terms such as, for example, "about", "substantially" and "approximately" are used to indicate a possible variation of ±10% from the stated value.

Abstract

A bushing assembly (30) for a track assembly (12) includes a first end element (36), a second end element (36), and a central element (38) positioned between the first end element (36) and the second end element (36). The central element (38) may be interference fit or positioned between the first end element (36) and the second end element (36), and the central element (38) may include a greater hardness than the first and second end elements (36). The first end element (36), the second end element (36), and the central element (38) form a bushing (30) with a longitudinal opening (32) extending longitudinally through the bushing (32).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to bushings, and more particularly to bushings for track assemblies of machines. Background technique [0002] Track-type machines typically utilize track chains on each side of the machine that engage the ground during propulsion of the machine. A plurality of individual links are pivotally coupled via a bushing and pin arrangement to form a track chain. The sprocket teeth, driven by the machine's engine, engage the bushings and translate the chain around one or more idler gears. As the chain translates, the connected links engage the ground surface beneath the machine, such as via coupled track shoes, and propel the machine over that surface. The track chain can be a straight link chain with alternating inner and outer links, or it can be an offset link chain where all links are the same. In both types of track chains, elements wear over time, especially the bushings that continuously mesh with the sprocket ...
