The method comprises the following steps of: monitoring a trigger event of equipment; monitoring whether a response event corresponding to the trigger event occurs or not according to the trigger event; and based on the trigger event and the response event, realizing asset equipment discovery, thereby acquiring asset information of the asset equipment. According to the asset management method and system, the trigger event and the response event are collected, and the association information between the trigger event and the response event is analyzed to obtain the newly accessed asset information, thereby achieving the purpose of asset discovery; the detection frequency does not need to be set or asset equipment does not need to be managed through network data flow, the influence of a firewall is small, and the performance requirement for discovery equipment is high; and asset equipment management can be realized by using the operation data of the equipment.
