Speakerphone

A processor operates on samples of a digital output signal to determine samples of a digital correction signal. The output signal samples are directed to an output channel for transmission from a speaker. The digital correction signal samples are supplied to a first digital-to-analog converter for conversion into an analog correction signal. The subtraction circuit generates a difference between a first analog signal provided by a microphone and the analog correction signal. The analog correction signal is an estimate of a contribution to the first analog signal due to a direct path transmission between the speaker and the microphone. The processor also receives a digital input signal derived from the difference signal, and, performs acoustic echo cancellation on the digital input signal to obtain a resultant signal. The acoustic echo cancellation is configured to remove contributions to the digital input signal due to reflected path transmissions.

Method for localizing the position of a wireless device

Systems and methods for localizing the position of a wireless device using a plurality of coordinated highly directional or adaptive antennas to detect signals from the wireless device. Because of the directional nature and / or adaptive processing of the antennas, off-angle multipath signals resulting from reflection and scattering as the wireless signal propagates through a cluttered environment are rejected by the antennas and processing. As a result, the antennas pass primarily direct path signals from the wireless device to the location estimator. The time of arrival of the signal and the angle of arrival at each antenna are used to in the location estimator to calculate the position of the wireless device. Various robust inversion techniques may also be applied to the data to minimize the effect of residual multipath-corrupted detections. Furthermore, the systems and methods include specialized wireless devices that provide locating signals and signals related to the biological condition of their owner.

Manufacturing methods and systems for rapid production of hearing-aid shells

Methods, apparatus and computer program products provide efficient techniques for designing and printing shells of hearing-aid devices with a high degree of quality assurance and reliability and with a reduced number of manual and time consuming production steps and operations. These techniques also preferably provide hearing-aid shells having internal volumes that can approach a maximum allowable ratio of internal volume relative to external volume. These high internal volumes facilitate the inclusion of hearing-aid electrical components having higher degrees of functionality and / or the use of smaller and less conspicuous hearing-aid shells. A preferred method includes operations to generate a watertight digital model of a hearing-aid shell by thickening a three-dimensional digital model of a shell surface in a manner that eliminates self-intersections and results in a thickened model having an internal volume that is a high percentage of an external volume of the model. This thickening operation preferably includes nonuniformly thickening the digital model of a shell surface about a directed path that identifies a location of an undersurface hearing-aid vent. This directed path may be drawn on the shell surface by a technician (e.g., audiologist) or computer-aided design operator, for example. Operations are then preferably performed to generate a digital model of an undersurface hearing-aid vent in the thickened model of the shell surface, at a location proximate the directed path.

A method and apparatus system for calibrating a sound beam-forming system provides calibration of low cost alternatives to present array beam-forming systems. A test signal is supplied to multiple speaker drivers and is detected from a microphone signal supplied from a microphone positioned at a listening position. A signal relationship between surround channel information supplied to the multiple speaker drivers is adjusted in conformity with the detected signal so that the surround channel information is substantially attenuated along a direct path toward the listening position. The result is that the surround channel information is propagated in a directivity pattern having at least one primary lobe directed away from the listening position so that the surround channel information is diffused by reflection before reaching the listening position. The signal relationship may be controlled by multiple digital filters that maximize late vs. early response of the surround channel information.

Methods and apparatus for detection of signal timing

A technique is described for determining the timing of a received signal that includes one or more time-delayed versions of a reference signal traveling over respective different signal paths. The technique includes correlating the received signal with the reference signal to produce a correlated signal; determining whether the correlated signal includes a signal peak that corresponds to the direct path of the received signal; and iterative repeating these operations until a signal peak is determined to correspond to the direct path of the received signal. In each successive iteration, the reference signal corresponding to at least the greatest signal peak in the correlated signal is regenerated, and contributions from each regenerated reference signal are removed from the received signal prior to correlating the received signal in the next iteration.
