Abstract

The invention provides a protection switching method and device. A first network device of an MAC switching domain can obtain a VLAN identifier and an IP address of a CE device, and determine a data transmission path group associated with a target service determined based on the VLAN identifier. If the first network equipment does not receive the BFD control message which is from the target network equipment and is used for indicating that the BFD session is in the connection establishment state within the preset number of continuous time intervals, the data transmission path for transmitting the BFD control message cannot bear the target service; and the service flow of the target service is transmitted by using the other data transmission path in the data transmission path group. The target network equipment is one of two pieces of third network equipment in an IP routing domain, the two pieces of third network equipment are correspondingly connected with two pieces of second network equipment in an MAC switching domain, and the session address of the BFD session comprises the IP address of the CE device and the IP address of the target network equipment.
