Abstract

A storage system and loading processing equipment for lifting and moving containers stacked in the storage system are described. The storage system includes multiple tracks or guide rails (22a, 22b). The plurality of rails or guide rails is arranged in a lattice pattern (14) above the stack of containers. The lattice pattern includes a plurality of lattice spaces and each stack is located in the occupied space of only a single lattice space. The loading processing equipment is configured to move laterally on tracks or guide rails above the stack. The loading processing equipment includes a container receiving space located above the rails or guide rails when in use, and lifting equipment arranged to lift the containers from the stacks into the container receiving space. The loading processing equipment includes a mechanism moving move laterally in one of the two transverse directions in the way that a first set of wheels or a second set of wheels are selectively engage the first set of rails or rails or the second set of rails or rails (22a or 22b).
