The invention discloses a method and device for locating and searching an object in a target area, and relates to the field of the Internet of Things, and the method comprises the steps: obtaining a signal intensity value of a to-be-located label; arranging the to-be-positioned label on the to-be-searched article, wherein the to-be-searched article is used in the target area; comparing the signal intensity value of the to-be-positioned tag with signal intensity values of a plurality of fingerprint tags pre-collected into a fingerprint database through a plurality of gateways to obtain all target fingerprint tags, wherein the signal intensity difference values between the target fingerprint tags and the to-be-positioned tag are smaller than a preset threshold value; taking the signal intensity difference value between each target fingerprint label and the label to be positioned as the weight of each target fingerprint label, and arranging the plurality of fingerprint labels at different positions in the target area; and according to the weight of each target fingerprint tag and the coordinate position of each target fingerprint tag, determining the coordinate position of the to-be-positioned tag, and further determining the position information of the to-be-searched article in the target area.
