The video processing subsystem (10) includes a fingerprint sequence selection module (14, 24) which is operable to select one or more sets of frames from input video content to be processed in order to generate a fingerprint; a fingerprint calculation module (14, 26) which is operable to generate a fingerprint based on a set of frames selected by the fingerprint sequence selection module; and a fingerprint comparator module (14, 28) which is operable to compare two fingerprints and to output a similarity score of the compared fingerprints. The method used by the fingerprint selection and fingerprint calculation modules includes selecting a group of frames of the encoded video content; processing the digitally encoded video content to obtain a set of quantized transform coefficients of residual macroblocks or portions of residual macroblocks associated with each of the selected frames; identifying a set of residual macroblocks per frame whose transform coefficients satisfy a threshold criterion; and generating a digital video fingerprint for the encoded video content in dependence upon the identified macroblocks or some property thereof within each of the selected frames.

Fingerprint recognition system

A method of analyzing and recognizing fingerprint images that utilizes vector processing of a vector field that is defined as the tangential vector of the fingerprint ridge curves is disclosed. The raw fingerprint image is divided into blocks, filtered to remove noise, and the orientation direction of each block is found. This allows the ridge curves to be enhanced and approximated by piece-wise linear approximations. The piece-wise linear approximations to the ridge curves allow the minutiae to be extracted and classified and a fingerprint minutiae template to be constructed. An enrollment process gathers multiple fingerprint images, creates fingerprint minutiae templates corresponding to the acquired fingerprint images, and stores the templates and other data associated with the respective individual or the enrolled fingerprint in a fingerprint database. In an identification process, an unknown raw fingerprint image is obtained via a fingerprint scanner and processed similarly to the enrollment process such that the fingerprint minutiae template of the unknown fingerprint is compared to one or more previously enrolled fingerprint minutiae templates. The identity of the individual associated with the unknown fingerprint is thereby ascertained. In addition, live finger detection can be accomplished in conjunction with the verification or identification process through analysis of the fingerprint image thus enhancing the security of the overall system.

System and method for finding a picture image in an image collection using localized two-dimensional visual fingerprints

An image management method and system provides for storing, indexing, searching and/or retrieving image data. The content of an image collection is pre-processed to identify stable and repeatable keypoints for each image in the collection. Fingerprint information is computed from local groups of keypoints, and the resulting fingerprint information is stored in a compact fingerprint database. The computing of the fingerprint information is based on combinations of a subgroup of the strongest keypoints in an image, called anchor keypoints, in addition to a number of non-anchor keypoints. For each fingerprint in the compact fingerprint database, a sequence of candidate fingerprint combinations is generated and stored in a Fan Tree and/or hashtable and a corresponding fingerprint data structure. The sequence of fingerprint combinations allows several non-anchor keypoints to be missing, while still allowing the system and method to correctly detect fingerprints with high accuracy. A realtime image query is performed by identifying keypoints and computing fingerprints from the query image and matching the query fingerprints to the existing Fan Tree and/or hashtable fingerprint data to determine the best matching image or set of images within the collection. At least one target image is retrieved based on the determining operation, and the retrieved target image is displayed, printed, stored and/or transmitted.

For producing a fingerprint of an audio signal, use is made of information defining a plurality of predetermined fingerprint modi, all of the fingerprint modi relating to the same type of fingerprint, the fingerprint modi, however, providing different fingerprints differing from each other with regard to their data volume, on the one hand, and to their characterizing strength for characterizing the audio signal, on the other hand, the fingerprint modi being pre-determined such that a fingerprint in accordance with a fingerprint modus having a first characterizing strength is convertible to a fingerprint in accordance with a fingerprint modus having a second characterizing strength, without using the audio signal. A predetermined fingerprint modus of the plurality of predetermined fingerprint modi is set and subsequently used for computing a fingerprint using the audio signal. The convertibility feature of the fingerprints having been produced by the different fingerprint modi enables setting a flexible compromise between the data volume and the characterizing strength for certain applications without having to re-generate a fingerprint database with each change of the fingerprint modus. Fingerprint representations scaled with regard to time or frequency may readily be converted to a different fingerprint modus.
