Method and system for packet communication employing path diversity

Communication over lossy packet networks such as the Internet is hampered by limited bandwidth and packet loss. The present invention provides a path diversity transmission system for improving the quality of communication over a lossy packet network. The path diversity transmission system explicitly sends different subsets of packets over different paths, thereby enabling the end-to-end application to effectively see an average path behavior. Generally, seeing this average path behavior provides better performance than seeing the behavior of any individual random path. For example, the probability that all of the multiple paths are simultaneously congested is much less than the probability that a single path is congested. The resulting path diversity can provide a number of benefits, including enabling real-time multimedia communication and simplifying system design (e.g., error correction system design). Two exemplary architectures for achieving path diversity are described herein. The first architecture is based on source routing, and the second architecture is based on a relay infrastructure. The second architecture routes traffic through semi-intelligent nodes at strategic locations in the Internet, thereby providing a service of improved reliability while leveraging the infrastructure of the Internet.

Automatic playback overshoot correction system

An automatic playback overshoot correction system predicts the position in the program material where the user expects to be when the user stops the fast forward or reverse progression of the program material. The invention determines the position where the program material was stopped. The media controller transitions to the new mode that the user selected, starting at the stopped position with an overshoot correction factor added or subtracted from it. The invention adapts to the user by remembering how much the user corrects after he stops the fast forward or reverse mode. Correction factors are calculated using the user's corrections and adjusting the correction factors if the user continues to make corrections. The invention also uses a prediction method to correctly place the user within the program upon transition out of either mode and determines if the speed of the fast forward or reverse modes and then automatically subtracts or adds, respectively, a time multiple to the frame where the transition was detected and positions the user at the correct frame. The time multiple is fine tuned if the user is consistently correcting after the fast forward or rewind mode stops. Another method initially tests the user's reaction time using a test video and asks the user to press the fast forward or reverse button on his control device during the test video and then asks the user to position the video to the place that he expected the system to have been. This time span is then used whenever the user uses the fast forward or reverse modes and is adjusted with a multiple for each speed. A final method allows the user to simply set a sensitivity setting that the system will use as a correction factor and a multiple is subtracted or added to the release frame whenever the user uses the fast forward or reverse modes, respectively.

Systems and methods for providing runtime universal resource locator (URL) analysis and correction

Systems and methods are provided that perform automatic URL analysis and correction in a computing system. The systems and methods automatically detect misentered or incorrect URLs, analyzing the invalid URLs with respect intelligent rules and valid URLs, and where a high likelihood exists for alternative URLs being intended, the alternative URLs are presented to the user as suggestions. The URLs used for comparison to the URL input may be collected through multiple channels or from multiple sources, which may be dynamically updated sources, including URLs commonly or newly found on the Web, users' favorite URLs and the like, as well as URLs from a standard URL list or database, all of which may be from one or more multi-lingual domain. In various embodiments, the alternative URL(s) are automatically presented when there is a very high confidence that the alternatives are desirable. Optionally, a mini search or a full blown search on the URL input may be performed and presented to the user to supplement the alternative URL suggestions. The systems allow a user to seek help or technical information about the URL navigation or search attempt and also allow a user to easily retry the query, ignoring the suggestions.

The invention relates to an intelligent error correction system of key words in the process of searching networks and a method thereof. On an Internet platform, firstly, a related linguistic model and a corresponding dictionary as well as a data index database are established through the training of related data information; secondly, a text is inputted, a Pinyin error correction part calculates the mistakes of Pinyin and characters, the error correction of characters is calculated by a fuzzy match; finally, all results are filtered according to the degree of association, a plurality of results are sorted to get the proximal results. The polyphone mistakes and character types as well as word types mistakes inputted by a user are corrected by means of the sound-character conversion and fuzzy error correction technical methods to correct the character replace mistakes, the unwanted character or the leakage of character mistakes, the character position mistakes, etc. in the input process. Moreover, the basic functions are expanded on the basis such as the English-Chinese and punctuations mixing error correction, the fuzzy match technique, the related prompt technique and the enhanced intelligence error correction.

Signal detector employing a Doppler phase correction system

A spread spectrum detector employs a Doppler phase correction system that improves correlation of pseudo-noise (PN) codes to a received spread spectrum signal by combining phase shifts, in the time domain, to correlation values that compensate for the Doppler shift error that is inherent in the signal and that is imposed upon the signal by movement between the signal source and receiver. In architecture, the Doppler phase correction system includes a receiver to receive a spread spectrum modulated signal having the Doppler shift error, a multiplier to produce a plurality of complex first correlation values based upon the signal and a code. A phase shifter generates a plurality of complex second correlation values respectively from the first correlation values. The second correlation values being phase shifted by respective different amounts from corresponding first correlation values, so that the second correlation values exhibit less of the Doppler shift error than the first correlation values. The phase shifter can be implemented with a look-up table that stores a plurality of phase shift values, a counter that produces indices for the look-up table, and a multiplier that multiplies the phase shift values that are output from the look-up table with the first correlation values to produce the second correlation values. Finally, a combiner, such as an integrator, combines, or integrates, the second correlation values to derive a third correlation that indicates a degree of correspondence of the code with the signal.

Large area position/proximity correction device with alarms using (D)GPS technology

A collar to be worn on an object or a large or small animal has been designed incorporating (D)GPS technology. The operation of the device includes programming the three dimensional boundary into the memory of the device and simply installing the collar on the animal. As the animal approaches the preprogrammed boundary, a first alarm sounds when the subject is within an arbitrary user defined distance, and a second more drastic alarm such as a shock correction is applied when the subject approaches a second position closer to the boundary. Means to easily program the device are also included in the system. The device has the capability to call or transmit important information such as location, speed, identity, and medical parameters, etc. to a station automatically or when polled. All necessary analog and digital circuitry, microprocessor, programming, communications hardware are integrated into the collar. The device also has applications in land, air and sea navigation, farming, construction, tracking stolen vehicles, and keeping track of children. This device could also be embedded in a specialized lawnmower that would know where your yard ended and your neighbor's began, and traverse around all obstacles in the yard. Important Military applications would include warning and directing soldiers of front line boundaries, minefield mapping and 3-D direction around MOA's for aircraft.
