Method for Dynamic Sensor Network Processing

Described are a method and a sensor aware network for dynamic processing of sensor data. Network context data are inserted into data packets from sensors or local sensor networks coupled to the sensor aware network. Sensor aware nodes in the sensor aware network can read the context data and can respond by performing specific network actions. The sensor data and network context data are provided to one or more application nodes. The sensor data and network context data can be stored in a database and later searched according to the network context data. Advantageously, sensor data flows can be treated differently by the sensor aware network, the application and the user, depending on the type of sensor data and the actual data values. Thus critical responses to certain sensor data flows can be implemented more efficiently than otherwise possible using conventional network configurations.

Signal Activated Circuit Interrupter

The current invention is an automatic AC power interruption system built into a portable power strip or a portable casing or integrated into an appliances control circuitry. The invention monitors the environment for hazard alarms, for example, a T3 signal smoke detector alarm, and responds by tripping open the power supply circuit to the power strip's receptacles and thus interrupts AC power to the protected appliances the user has chosen to plug into them. One alternate form of the invention uses a portable casing that can be plugged into a power receptacle and, when a hazard alarm is detected, trip off the nearest GFCI. Other alternate forms of the invention are integrated within an individual appliance's control circuitry and may interrupt power using a built-in switch or by tripping off the nearest GFCI device. The invention's purpose is to help prevent death, injury, and property damage by preventing fires or facilitating fire suppression; more particularly, by interrupting electrical power to problematic appliances, such as toasters, space heaters, battery chargers, stoves, and motors, when a hazardous condition alarm is emitted. It further interrupts power to the problematic appliances when a detector emits an alarm indicating toxic fumes, natural gas, radon, carbon monoxide, or whatever other detector-alarm the consumer installs in the area to be protected.

Method using an optical signal for detecting overheating and fire conditions in an aircraft

A fiber optic cable forms a temperature sensor arranged along an object or space to monitor the temperature thereof and detect overheating or fire conditions. An end of the sensor is con5 nected through an interface to a laser emitter and an optical receiver, which are further connected to a computer. The computer controls the laser emitter to emit a laser pulse into the sensor. The optical receiver receives the resulting reflection signal from the sensor, and provides a corresponding signal to the computer to be evaluated in connection with a nominal comparison signal. If any location of the sensor is subjected to an unacceptable temperature increase, the sensor's refractive characteristics are changed, to cause an additional reflection pulse in the reflection signal. By evaluating the amplitude and the return time of the additional reflection pulse, the temperature level and the location of the overheating condition are determined by the computer.

Fire alarm system

An improved fire alarm system capable of reliably detecting the presence of fire caused by different sources. The fire alarm system detects a smoke density (S) as well as a temperature difference (DELTAT) within a predetermined time interval, and has primary criteria of (i) whether the smoke density (S) exceeds a smoke threshold [e.g., S>5% / m]; (ii) whether the temperature difference (DELTAT) exceeds a temperature difference threshold [e.g., DELTAT>=18 C]; and (iii) whether a combination of S and DELTAT satisfies an inequality [e.g. 2S+DELTAT >=12] which is based upon a decreasing function of DELTAT with an increase of S. The detected smoke density and the temperature difference are examined with reference to the primary criteria so as to provide a fire warning signal indicating a possible fire presence when anyone of the above primary criteria is satisfied.
