According to the scheme, the method comprises the steps that a transformer model is built in simulation software, and the positions of detection points and the positions of partial discharge points in a transformer are divided according to the transformer model; simulation is carried out in simulation software, and ultrahigh frequency signal waveforms received by the detection points when partial discharge occurs at different positions are obtained; the maximum amplitude of an electromagnetic wave signal detected by each sensor at each detection point is extracted from the ultrahigh frequency signal waveform, a detection point set is determined according to the maximum amplitude, and the maximum amplitude of the detection points in the detection point set is larger than a first preset value; and determining a first detection point of which the amplitudes of the electromagnetic wave signals at the plurality of partial discharge points are greater than a second preset value from the detection point set, wherein the position corresponding to the first detection point is the position for installing an ultrahigh frequency sensor.
