Abstract

A programmable serial input / output controller, operating system and method wherein the programmable serial input / output controller is coupled between an external circuit and a microcontroller and includes a timing circuit, a pin controller and a program controller. The timing circuit is configured to perform a timing operation. The pin controller is coupled to the external circuit and includes an output pin. The output pin is used for providing an output signal to an external circuit. In an output mode, the program controller provides an initial level to the output pin and commands the timing circuit to execute timing operation. When the time for the timing circuit to execute the timing operation reaches a first sending time, the program controller inverts the level of the output pin and commands the timing circuit to execute the timing operation again. When the time for the timing circuit to execute the timing operation again reaches a second sending time, the program controller inverts the level of the output pin.
