Embodiment Construction

[0018] As mentioned above, the present disclosure relates to STOs with antiferromagnetic coupling auxiliary layers and methods of operation thereof, various aspects of which are described in detail below. STOs with antiferromagnetically coupled auxiliary layers have narrower peak widths at oscillation frequencies, which provide improved Q-factor and performance in various communication devices or other devices employing STOs.

[0019] The drawings are not drawn to scale. Where a single instance of an element is shown, multiple instances of an element may be repeated unless explicitly described or otherwise clearly indicated that there is no repetition of the element. Items such as "first," "second," and "third" are used merely to identify similar elements, and different sequence numbers may be employed throughout the specification and claims of the present disclosure. The term "at least one" element is meant to include all possibilities of a single element and the possibility...

Abstract

The invention provides a spin torque oscillator. The spin torque oscillator includes a first electrode, a second electrode, and a device layer stack between the first electrode and the second electrode. The device layer stack includes: a spin polarization layer including a first ferromagnetic material; an auxiliary layer including a third ferromagnetic material; a ferromagnetic oscillation layer including a second ferromagnetic material between the spin polarization layer and the auxiliary layer; a non-magnetic spacer layer located between the spin polarization layer and the ferromagnetic oscillation layer; and a non-magnetic coupling layer between the ferromagnetic oscillation layer and the auxiliary layer. The auxiliary layer is antiferromagnetic coupled to the ferromagnetic oscillation layer through the non-magnetic coupling layer, and the auxiliary layer has a magnetization coupled to the magnetization of the ferromagnetic oscillation layer.

Description
