The method comprises the following steps: monitoring instance state information of multiple groups of databases; for the first group of databases, determining whether the first database has a fault according to the monitoring result, the first database being a main database in the first group of databases; under the condition that it is determined that the first database breaks down, target databases in second databases are determined, the second databases are slave databases of the first database, and the target databases comprise the database with the smallest data difference with the first database in the second databases; switching the target database into a new main database; and redirecting the main database domain name of the first group of databases as the domain name of the target database. Whether the master database breaks down or not can be accurately judged by monitoring the instance state information of the databases, and when the master database breaks down, the database with the smallest data difference with the master database in the slave databases is switched into the new master database, so that rapid switching of the master database and the slave databases can be achieved.
