Abstract

A wireless local area network (WLAN) protocol that allows a transmit opportunity (TXOP) holder to share a TXOP with other stations. The intent of the shared TXOP is communicated to an access point (AP). When channel access is obtained, the TXOP holder directly or indirectly communicates that the TXOP may be shared with other STAs, after which scheduling information (time and duration) is shared with other STAs. When a TXOP occurs, other STAs may access the channel at a specified time and for a specified duration, thereby improving efficiency by increasing the use of the TXOP.
