Abstract

A method and apparatus for verifying that a correct tool and / or a calibration tool has been installed in a cable preparation device prior to operating the cable preparation device in which a cable is inserted. The method comprises: inserting a reference device between blades of a cable preparation apparatus; moving the blade inwardly toward the reference device until the blade engages the reference device; collecting data to determine when the blade engages the reference device; and comparing the collected blade data to an expected data range of the reference device, where the tool is not validated and the apparatus alerts the user if the collected blade data does not conform to the expected data range of the reference device.
