Abstract

A thread forming tap comprises an elongated body (4), having at a first end (6) a connector portion (8) and at a second end (10) a thread forming portion (12), said thread forming portion comprising at least one thread forming thread (18) having a noncircular cross-section including at least three lobes (30) for plastically deforming an interior wall of an opening while forming an internal thread.
