Embodiment I

[0079] Example I: The compositions exemplified in Table 1 below are representative of the carrier system of the emulsion composition of the present invention. The carrier system is typically prepared by mixing petrolatum and a fatty alcohol, such as behenyl alcohol, by weight, and then heating the mixture to about 80°C while stirring using a low speed propeller stirrer. Next, a viscosity or thickening agent is added to the mixture to shear mix the ingredients into the final carrier system. Suitable viscosity or thickening agents include beheneth-10, fumed silica, bentonite and steareth-2, wherein the viscosity or thickening agents may be used alone or in combination. The ingredients can be shear mixed using an IKA Ultra Turrax shear mixer at 11,000 revolutions per minute (rpm).

[0080] Alternatively, petrolatum, fatty alcohol, and viscosity or thickening agent can be mixed and heated to 80°C with stirring to melt the ingredients, then using a high-speed blade agitator such...

Embodiment II-IX

[0090] Examples II-IX : The following Examples II-IX detailed in Table 2 below are representative of emulsion compositions of the present invention comprising the carrier system listed in Table 1. Emulsion compositions are prepared by formulating a zinc oxide skin treatment agent premix and then adding the zinc oxide premix to the other skin treatment agents and any optional ingredients such as panthenol and glycerin; or by formulating a niacinamide skin treatment medicament and any optional ingredients. The skin treatment solution is then added to a carrier system such as those described in Table 1, wherein the skin treatment solution and carrier system are heated to a temperature of about 80°C with agitation. All ingredients are included by weight of the emulsion composition. These emulsion compositions are especially effective in controlling skin disorders such as erythema, malodour, and bacterial infections of the skin.

Abstract

A catamenial device, the device having a topsheet having a body facing surface, wherein the topsheet has a level of hydrophobicity. A lotion composition is applied to at least a portion of at least to the body facing surface of the topsheet, the lotion composition having a level of hydrophobicity equal or greater than that of said topsheet. A backsheet is joined to the topsheet and an absorbent core is disposed between the topsheet and said backsheet.

Description

Field of Invention [0001] This application relates to menstrual devices such as sanitary napkins for absorbing menses. More particularly, the present invention relates to catamenial devices having the outer surface of the topsheet coated with a hydrophobic emulsion which is transferable to the wearer's skin through normal contact and movement and / or body heat of the wearer. Background of the Invention [0002] Disposable absorbent articles such as diapers, training pants and catamenial devices with lotion topsheets are known. Various types of lotions are known to be useful in providing various skin benefits, such as preventing or treating diaper rash. For example, these lotions can be applied to the topsheet of an absorbent article and, in use, transfer to the wearer's skin. [0003] Unlike many types of disposable absorbent articles, menstrual devices such as pads and panty liners are specifically designed to absorb menstrual fluid. Menstrual fluid differs from other exu...
