Abstract

A driving unit and control method for a reciprocating compressor to control the frequency of input power so that the operating frequency of the compressor follows a resonance frequency that varies according to a change in load applied to the compressor. The reciprocating compressor includes an inverter that adjusts the frequency of the input power supply so that the frequency of the input power supply is set to a value corresponding to the resonance frequency through the inverter. The resonance frequency is set within a range between 60% and 90% of the normal power supply frequency. The compressor also includes a controller that controls the frequency of the input power supply so that the operating frequency of the compressor follows the resonance frequency that varies according to the operation of the compressor.
