Abstract

An object of the present invention is to provide an optical pickup device which improves resolution of reproduced signals without increasing the number of components, and does not require positional adjustment of a grating during assembly of the optical pickup device. For this purpose, the optical pickup device of the present invention includes a semiconductor laser 1 , a grating 3 , an objective lens 5 , and a push-pull signal detecting section 10 . The grating 3 divides a light beam emitted from the semiconductor laser 1 into a 0-order diffracted beam, and a pair of +-1st-order diffracted beams. The grating 3 is set so that a reduction rate of light intensity for the 0-order diffracted beam is decreased and intensities of the pair of +-1st-order diffracted beams are decreased from a vicinity of an optical axis toward periphery parts. Accordingly, the 0-order diffracted beam has a flat intensity distribution, and the intensities of the pair of +-1st-order diffracted beams are higher in the vicinity of the optical axis than in the periphery part. Thus, the resolution of reproduced signals can be improved, and the positional adjustment of the grating can be omitted when the device is assembled.
