Ontology for database design and application development

A system and method lets a user create or import ontologies and create databases and related application software. These databases can be specially tuned to suit a particular need, and each comes with the same error-detection rules to keep the data clean. Such databases may be searched based on meaning, rather than on words-that-begin-with-something. And multiple databases, if generated from the same basic ontology can communicate with each other without any additional effort. Ontology management and generation tools enable enterprises to create databases that use ontologies to improve data integration, maintainability, quality, and flexibility. Only the relevant aspects of the ontology are targeted, extracting out a sub-model that has the power of the full ontology restricted to objects of interest for the application domain. To increase performance and add desired database characteristics, this sub-model is translated into a database system. Java-based object-oriented and relational application program interfaces (APIs) are then generated from this translation, providing application developers with an API that exactly reflects the entity types and relations (classes and methods) that are represented by the database. This generation approach essentially turns the ontology into a set of integrated and efficient databases.

Integration of graphic display elements, process modules and control modules in process plants

Graphic displays, which display information about process elements and the manner in which these elements are connected within a process, process modules, which simulate the operation of the elements depicted within the graphic displays and control modules, which perform on-line control activities within a process, may be communicatively connected together to provide a combined control, simulation and display environment that enables enhanced control, simulation and display activities. Smart process objects, which have both graphical and simulation elements, may used to create one or more graphic displays and one or more process simulation modules, each having elements which may communicate with one another to share data between the graphic displays and the process modules. Additionally, function blocks within control modules executed in the process plant may reference the elements within the graphic displays and the process modules (and vice versa) so that control modules may use simulated data developed by the process modules to perform better control, so that process modules may perform better simulation using actual pant data from the control modules, and so that the graphic displays may be used to illustrate actual process data and/or simulated process data as developed by the control modules and the process modules.

System and method for cleaning noisy genetic data and determining chromosome copy number

Disclosed herein is a system and method for increasing the fidelity of measured genetic data, for making allele calls, and for determining the state of aneuploidy, in one or a small set of cells, or from fragmentary DNA, where a limited quantity of genetic data is available. Genetic material from the target individual is acquired, amplified and the genetic data is measured using known methods. Poorly or incorrectly measured base pairs, missing alleles and missing regions are reconstructed using expected similarities between the target genome and the genome of genetically related individuals. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, incomplete genetic data from an embryonic cell are reconstructed at a plurality of loci using the more complete genetic data from a larger sample of diploid cells from one or both parents, with or without haploid genetic data from one or both parents. In another embodiment of the invention, the chromosome copy number can be determined from the measured genetic data of a single or small number of cells, with or without genetic information from one or both parents. In another embodiment of the invention, these determinations are made for the purpose of embryo selection in the context of in-vitro fertilization. In another embodiment of the invention, the genetic data can be reconstructed for the purposes of making phenotypic predictions.

Methods of fabricating a semiconductor device

Methods of fabricating a semiconductor device are provided. Methods of forming a finer pattern of a semiconductor device using a buffer layer for retarding, or preventing, bridge formation between patterns in the formation of a finer pattern below resolution limits of a photolithography process by double patterning are also provided. A first hard mask layer and/or a second hard mask layer may be formed on a layer of a substrate to be etched. A first etch mask pattern of a first pitch may be formed on the second hard mask layer. After a buffer layer is formed on the overall surface of the substrate, a second etch mask pattern of a second pitch may be formed thereon in a region between the first etch mask pattern. The buffer layer may be anisotropically etched using the second etch mask pattern as an etch mask, forming a buffer layer pattern. The second hard mask layer may be anisotropically etched using the first etch mask pattern and/or the buffer layer pattern as etch masks, forming a second hard mask pattern. The first hard mask layer may be anisotropically etched using the second hard mask pattern as an etch mask, forming a first hard mask pattern. The etched layer may be anisotropically etched using the first hard mask pattern as an etch mask.
