Problems solved by technology

[0006] Although DRMOS protects digital rights from unauthorized copying of operating system components and unauthorized applications, DRMOS does not protect digital rights from unauthorized copying of hardware components, such as snooping of communications between the monitoring CPU and the memory of an electronic device equipment
Unauthorized copying of digital rights is especially problematic when the digital right provides access to multiple instances of the content item, for example as a result of broadcasting the content item

Embodiment Construction

[0031] see figure 1 , the method of the present invention comprises three steps. Step 1 comprises sending to the server a request for a digital right of the encrypted content item, the request including a circuit identifier identifying the integrated circuit and a content identifier identifying the encrypted content item. Step 3 includes receiving from the server an encrypted digital right encrypted using a public key associated with the integrated circuit. Step 5 includes instructing the integrated circuit to decrypt the encrypted digital right by using a secret key associated with the integrated circuit, and storing the digital right in the integrated circuit, the secret key stored in the integrated circuit. An integrated circuit can be a relatively simple microchip, such as those found on most smart cards or high-efficiency microprocessors. Step 5 can eg be performed directly after step 3 or only before a subsequent step. In the latter case, the encrypted digital rights ...

Abstract

In the method of the invention, a request for a digital right of an encrypted content item is sent to a server (61). The request contains a circuit identifier identifying the integrated circuit and a content identifier identifying the encrypted content. Subsequently, an encrypted digital right is received from the server (61), encrypted using a public key associated with the integrated circuit. Furthermore, the integrated circuit is instructed to decrypt the encrypted digital right and store the digital right in the integrated circuit by using the secret key associated with the integrated circuit. The secret key is stored in the integrated circuit. The system of the invention comprises a client (63) performing the method and a server (61) mentioned in the method. The electronic device 10 executes the method of the present invention.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method of managing digital rights, and in particular to a method comprising the steps of: sending a request for a digital right to a server and receiving the digital right from the server. [0002] The invention also relates to a computer program enabling a programmable device to perform a method of managing digital rights. [0003] The present invention also relates to a system for managing digital rights, the system includes a client and a server, the client can execute the method for managing digital rights. [0004] The invention also relates to an electronic device capable of performing the method of managing digital rights. Background technique [0005] An example of such a method is known from US6330670. Known methods include sending to a server a request for a content item and a request for a digital right for the content item, such as a license and / or a content decryption key. A known method is performed b...
